Dwarf cichlid breeding

 Butterfly cichlid breeding Microgeophagus ramirezi

The butterfly cichlid , Microgeophagus ramirezi , is one of the most beautiful dwarf cichlids and bears the name butterfly rightly so. Since these small South American have a peaceful behavior they are well suited as accompanying species for discuses and scalars.

Our Ramirezi distinguished by their size and color brilliance. So our breeding males reach a proud size approx 7 cm and the females are slightly smaller accordingly . In order to achieve this high standard of quality and to maintain over the years is very much hard work and dedication to the animals needed. Now one might say , so hard that is not yet , you should know that I am an absolute perfectionist. That is, in plain text , which the Ramirezi should have all the typical characteristics such as z.Bsp : her face drawing and color brilliance to name a few.

The breeding animals are housed in our so-called T- block, which has a volume of about 3500 liters. Our butterfly cichlids care for their eggs and then lead their larvae . As in the breeding ponds are several pairs , they stimulate each other , so that several clutches are in the same stage of development , there are total broods of up to 2,000 juveniles are not uncommon and the swarming brood , it can then pass the juveniles of other couples in the neighborhood be "adopted" .

In general, they are at this stage separated from their parents and put into our " baby block " . In the meantime, then the Artemiacysten hatched from our own harvest. Due to their smaller size compared to their American relatives , they are excellent for baiting the young fry.

Above a certain size, and depending on the amount then the fry will be implemented in larger tanks and additionally used to other foods . So we feed this size , inter alia, a fine Rinderherzmix according to our own recipe , lobster eggs, Cyclops and two -day-old breeding approaches of nauplii . Now some will say that the 2 -day-old nauplii have a lower nutritional value . This is true but on our nauplii not because our Artemiacysten be flushed with original water from the lakes and are subsequently dried and frozen. Therefore, all the minerals and algae spores remain on the egg membrane adhere and are then dissolved in the mixture of water and are therefore the nauplii as food available. In addition, a few drops of water are added algae from our lakes . (See picture Artemia )

Since the feed is varied and rich , you can see the fish in the grow . The rhythm of food supply and water exchange has a positive effect on the behavior of our fish. Since the water change fluctuations in the water biology arise that we can not influence conscious , does it show in the resilience and robustness of the fish. Even after translated into foreign pools the fish already begin to look for new areas .
The butterfly cichlid a peaceful , fun-loving and magnificent fish has made us much more joy and fun and will make sure a long time.
